How it works

The tool shrinks your picture to the size you pick, one tile per block. Each tile gets the block or wall whose colour is closest, the way the eye sees colour (OKLab colour space).

The colours are the ones the game draws on the full map. Up close in the world, blocks have texture and lighting, so the art looks best on the map or zoomed out.

Paint changes the map colour with the game rule: the paint colour times the brightest part of the block colour. Shadow Paint and Negative Paint have their own rules. One paint is used per tile.

When two choices give the same colour, the list keeps the one without paint, then the one listed first in the game.

Dithering spreads the colour a tile misses onto its neighbours, so a mix of tiles looks like the missing colour from far away.

273 blocks, 281 walls and 30 paints. Blocks and walls the map does not show, or shows in a colour that changes with place or biome, are left out.
