Pylon towns: where to put each NPC
A pylon town is a small group of town NPCs in one zone, with a pylon to teleport there. Several of these towns across the world can lower your NPCs' prices and cut your travel time.
The pylon rules
Most town NPCs with a shop sell the pylon of the zone you stand in when at least 2 town NPCs live close to you. No pylon is for sale while you stand in the Corruption or the Crimson.
To teleport, a pylon needs at least 2 town NPCs living near it, and you must stand near a pylon yourself. The
Universal Pylon is the exception.
Which NPCs like each zone
This table comes from the game's own likes and dislikes. Put NPCs who like a zone next to its pylon, and keep those who dislike it away.

Building the groups
Keep each group small: NPCs with too many neighbours get crowded and their prices go up. Neighbours matter as much as the zone, so check each pair before you build. The NPC happiness planner works this out for you, with the game's own numbers, and can search for a good split.
The
Universal Pylon works anywhere and needs no NPCs. The
Zoologist sells it once your Bestiary is complete.
